Greensboro is the third largest city in North Carolina. It is located in Guilford County, in the central Piedmont area of North Carolina.
The area is home to a number of major corporations, including Lincoln Financial Group, Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corporation, Lorillard Corporation and VF Corporation. The Piedmont Triad International Airport contains a newly constructed Federal Express Corporation $300 million cargo hub and a new facility for Honda Aircraft Company to manufacture HondaJet light business jet aircraft.
Major cultural and recreational events include the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, the Eastern Music Festival, the Wyndham Championship professional golf tournament, and the annual men's basketball tournaments for the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southern Conference. The latter two are hosted in the recently expanded 23,000-seat Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
The City is home to seven colleges and universities: The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina A&T State University, Elon University, Bennett College, Guilford College, Greensboro College, and Guilford Technical Community College. NC A&T and UNC Greensboro have the nation's only Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, which provides equipment, research and a powerful knowledge base to collaborating companies.
Greensboro was named one of the 50 best cities to live and launch a business by Fortune Small Business Magazine in 2008.
