Beaufort County Courthouse, Washington

Beaufort County's first courthouse was built in Bath, North Carolina, in 1706, and was replaced in 1756. After much dissension, the county seat was moved to Washington, in 1785, and the courthouse shown here was built the following year. This historic courthouse hosted the county's judicial and government operations for until 1971. It is now used as a library and public assembly building.
