Cabarrus County Courthouse, Concord

Built in 1876 on the site of a courthouse that burned shortly after the close of the American Civil War, this building cost $20,000 to construct. It featured a mechanical clock and bell, which continued to operate throughout its century-long life as a courthouse. Eventually, the courthouse was replaced by a modern concrete and steel structure next door.
