Mike Meeker practices in the fields of construction and design law, and complex commercial litigation. He has had extensive experience in venues throughout the United States including federal and state trial and appellate courts, arbitrations, administrative proceedings and different types of alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Recent representative cases he has handled successfully as lead counsel for his clients include obtaining a federal court trial judgment in excess of $16 million on behalf of a municipality against a general contractor arising from termination and reprocurement for a municipal wastewater treatment plant; obtaining an award exceeding $3.7 million for a construction manager in state trial and appellate courts in connection with a claim for additional services against a governmental agency; obtaining an arbitration award of approximately $1 million on behalf of a general contractor against a commercial developer for delay and impact claims; settlement through alternative resolution proceedings of a dispute between a general contractor and a major university of claims exceeding $200 million arising from the construction of a co-generation plant; obtaining a state court judgment on behalf of a general contractor against a design professional resulting from improper design; representation of design professionals in alternative dispute proceedings with a school district; special counsel for the State in administrative proceeding resolving construction claims arising from an emergency construction program; representation of a school district in implementing uniform contract requirements and procedures and claims avoidance in connection with two major bond funded school construction programs.

With his broad background representing owners, municipalities, state agencies, school systems, housing authorities, construction managers (both agency and at risk), general contractors, subcontractors, architects and engineers for more than thirty years, Mike understands all facets of the construction industry and brings that knowledge and insight to bear in helping his clients avoid claims and disputes where possible. When claims arise, his experience and insight allows him to devise a strategy for resolution in the most cost effective method for his clients through alternative dispute resolution. If claims and disputes cannot be resolved, Mike has successfully handled disputes through all levels of state and federal trial and appellate courts, administrative proceedings and arbitrations.

He also has extensive experience in dealing with large, complex construction proceedings, including impact and delay claims and dealing with construction experts in scheduling, productivity, impact, damages, architectural and engineering defects, and related fields.

In addition to his role as counsellor and advocate, Mike has also served as mediator or arbitrator on numerous major claims and disputes.

He has been a frequent speaker at programs for developers, owners, contractors, governmental agencies and school districts on the topic of construction, design and development law and state agency contracting, procurement and dispute resolution.
