For over twenty years, Bob has devoted his practice to a mixture of litigation and environmental law.  Bob has extensive trial experience in the State and Federal Courts, as well as in multiple arbitrations.  His cases have ranged from breach of contract to wrongful death to toxic tort.   Bob has also regularly appeared in State and Federal appellate courts.

Among Bob’s more notable appellate cases are Curl v. American Multimedia (N. C. App.) and Shavitz v. City of High Point (N. C. App.).  In Curl, Bob represented defendants facing multiple toxic tort and groundwater contamination claims.  His clients’ success stands as the leading toxic tort decision under North Carolina law.  In Shavitz, Bob represented the Guilford County Board of Education in a dispute as to whether local school systems are entitled to the proceeds of fines imposed under “red light camera” laws and ordinances.  The victory for the Board of Education resulted in millions of dollars in recoveries for school systems state-wide.

Bob’s current matters include the representation of two defendants in the civil litigation growing out of the Duke Lacrosse criminal cases, as well as representation of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg and other boards of education in litigation regarding the funding of charter schools.

Bob also practices extensively in the field of environmental law, with years of experience relating to groundwater contamination, UST’s, toxic torts, the Clean Air Act, RCRA, Superfund, and TSCA.  His practice includes both the litigation and non-litigation sides of the environmental practice.  Bob has assisted clients across the country, including in North Carolina, California, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, Virginia, and Florida.

Bob has been married to Julie Davis since 1987. Their son, Rhyne, is a sophomore at Duke University. Their daughter, Grace, is a junior at Northwest Guilford High School.
