D.J. practices in the areas of commercial litigation, labor and employment law, and special investigations. As a civil litigator, D.J. has represented clients in cases pending in all levels of federal and state trial courts in North Carolina, including the North Carolina Business Court. He represents corporate and individual clients in a range of sophisticated business disputes, including litigation involving fraud, unfair trade practices, breach of contract, securities, and the False Claims Act.
In keeping with the firm’s long tradition in labor and employment law, D.J. represents employers in all aspects of workplace law before state and federal agencies and courts.
D.J. regularly advises employers in connection with a wide variety of employment matters, including employee terminations, disciplinary actions, investigations, discrimination and retaliation claims, and policy creation and implementation.
D.J. began his legal career as a law clerk to The Honorable James C. Dever, III, U.S.
District Court, Eastern District of North Carolina, 2006-07.
Prior to law school, D.J. worked for five years on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant and communications director.
