Mike Dowling is an associate in the Raleigh office with a diverse practice in general civil litigation and criminal defense.  Mike has experience representing clients in the state and federal trial courts of North Carolina.

Mike represents both corporate and individual clients in a range of business and related commercial disputes. Mike’s civil litigation experience includes:

  • Successful defense of a building supply company against claims for breach of warranty and defective construction.
  • Successful defense of a hospital accounting/billing firm against alleged violations of the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act as well as state consumer protection laws.
  • Defense of home sellers, one of whom was a licensed realtor, against claims of fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and violation of the North Carolina Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
  • Representation of a commercial landlord in a dispute with a former tenant over lost rent and other damages.
  • Successful representation of a major lender in an action against several borrowers and guarantors who defaulted on a commercial loan worth over a million dollars.    

In his criminal practice, Mike represents individuals who are facing serious federal felony or misdemeanor investigations and prosecutions.  Mike has prior experience in federal criminal matters involving narcotics conspiracies and distribution, firearm violations, and related matters. 

Mike attended Duke University on a full football scholarship and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in psychology. Mike received his law degree from Duke University School of Law and then began his legal career as a law clerk to The Honorable Terrence W. Boyle, a federal trial court judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
