The North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyers Division presented Brooks Pierce attorney John Buford with the Charles F. Blanchard Young Lawyer of the Year Award at its banquet on June 26.
The Charles F. Blanchard Young Lawyer of the Year Award, named for the first Chair of the NCBA YLD, is presented each year in recognition of one member’s distinguished and meritorious service to the community, profession and Division.
Current chair Roberta King presented the award and said, “John worked tirelessly for the YLD, aiding with the preparation of the division’s Award of Achievement Applications for the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division’s annual awards program; educating members about the YLD, its structure and goals; and overseeing the activities of the division’s numerous committees. He always pitches in when help is needed."
John's practice involves a variety of complex commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts in North Carolina, including the North Carolina Business Court.
In accepting the award, John said, “In the six years that I have been active in the NCBA YLD, I have seen enough good people doing enough good works to make me a firm believer in the YLD as an institution and I have been proud to advance its mission in whatever small ways I can.”
