Brooks Pierce partner John Buford has been named Chair-Elect of the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association for the 2011-2012 year term. He was installed at the Bar Association's Annual Meeting in Asheville on June 25, 2011.
John has previously served the Young Lawyers Division as Secretary, Adminstrative Director, Division Director, Meetings & Conventions Committee Chair, and Internet Communications Committee Chair.
John's practice involves a variety of complex commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts in North Carolina, including the North Carolina Business Court. He also has experience in arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution fora. His interest is in using litigation technology to successfully position modern disputes for modern juries and judges.
John has represented corporate and individual clients in a variety of sophisticated business disputes, including lawsuits involving professional liability, unfair and deceptive trade practices, business defamation, transportation, taxation, shareholder liability, derivative actions, construction, land use, deepening insolvency, and intellectual property.
John was named a 2010 North Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Star in business litigation by Law & Politics magazine.
