Ed Winslow, a partner in the Greensboro office of Brooks Pierce, was recently quoted by the Raleigh News & Observer in an article about Guilford College President Jane Fernandes.

Fernandes is the nation’s first deaf female college president. Since being named president of Guilford College in 2014, she has looked for ways to help the small college survive at a time when some of its counterparts are falling.

Winslow, who is chair of the board of trustees at Guilford College and has been a trustee for the past decade, spoke about Fernandes’ impact as president. He credits a bump in enrollment last year to excitement over her leadership.

“People are frankly inspired by her. We were confronting one challenge after the next and her response to that, her resilience and determination and creativity, was just extraordinary,” he said.
