Jim Williams Receives Highest Award from State Bar

Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP is pleased to announce that partner James T. Williams, Jr. recently received the John B. McMillan Distinguished Service Award, the highest award given by the North Carolina State Bar. 

In honoring Jim, the Bar noted he has cultivated knowledge of the law beyond its use for clients, employing that knowledge in reform of the law, and working to strengthen legal education; furthered the public's understanding of and confidence in the rule of law and the justice system; devoted professional time and resources and provided civic leadership to ensure equal access to our system of justice for all; aided the legal profession by helping the bar regulate itself in the public interest and by seeking to improve the administration of justice and the quality of services rendered by the legal profession; provided professional services to persons of limited means and to public service and charitable groups; treated opposing counsel with courtesy and respect; encouraged and counseled peers; and fostered civility among members of the bar. 

Jim’s practice is concentrated in business litigation and corporate matters for both businesses and professional organizations. Over his career, he has handled many complex business cases in federal and state courts, the North Carolina Business Court, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims involving class actions, securities, antitrust, corporate governance, and other kinds of business disputes.
