Brooks Pierce attorney and former Chief Justice of the N.C. Supreme Court Henry E. Frye Sr. will be keynote speaker for the Guilford Technical Community College graduation at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the Greensboro Coliseum. More than 1,300 students will graduate.
Frye, an honors graduate of NC A&T State University and UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law, became the first African-American to serve in the N.C. House of Representatives in the 20th Century. He was elected to that position in 1963 and later was elected to the N.C. Senate.
In 1983, Frye became the first African-American to serve on the N.C. Supreme Court. He was appointed Chief Justice by Gov. Jim Hunt in 1999. He was organizer and president of Greensboro National Bank and has practiced law in Greensboro for several years.
