Education

Our firm offers a wide array of legal services in the field of education law representing universities, colleges, community colleges and K-12 educational institutions. We provide general counsel to public school systems large and small, urban and rural. We also represent a number of private primary and secondary schools. We litigate a wide variety of education issues in both state and federal courts, including: civil rights, tort cases, employment cases, condemnation, funding lawsuits, construction, and contracting matters. Our firm provides counsel to school boards including: employment and tenure, student discipline, civil rights, districting, electoral matters, construction, contracting, real estate, bond forfeiture collection, policy creation and revision, boardsmanship, and athletics.

Lawyers at Brooks Pierce are active members of the North Carolina Council of School Attorneys (NCCOSA) and the Education Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, as well as the National School Boards Association, and are regular presenters at the North Carolina School Boards Association, the North Carolina Principals Executive Program, and the North Carolina Institute of Government-now the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Articles written by several of our lawyers are published in the "North Carolina School Law Bulletin." We participate in training sessions for employees and board members for various boards of education.
