Sustainability

Environmental protection and the economy are increasingly interconnected. The attorneys at Brooks Pierce view sustainability as configuring human activity in such a way that supports society's greatest potential while also planning for the long term protection of our natural ecosystems.

Our attorneys have experience with a considerable number of legal matters that fall under this definition. This practice group includes lawyers experienced in administrative and regulatory law, commercial and corporate finance, commercial real estate, construction, energy, environmental law, intellectual property, legislative and governmental representation, securities, tax, zoning, land use and development and other disciplines to address sustainability legal issues in a comprehensive way, on a wide-ranging field of "green" issues

Our sustainability attorneys have backgrounds that vary from commercial fisherman to environmental engineer to in-house counsel for a multinational energy company. This experience gives our attorneys considerable advantages in understanding the client's needs as the environment and sustainability continue to emerge in all facets of business across the country.

Matters covered by the sustainability group include permitting, renewable energy, biofuels, greenhouse gas regulations, clean water, mold, conservation land use, sustainable construction, "green" marketing, carbon audits and offsets, waste reduction, minimization and recycling, and other practice areas heavily impacted by green initiatives, including finance, lending, private equity funding, vendor agreements, intellectual property of cleantech and renewable energy technology, and tax strategies.

Our non-profit lawyers regularly advise those with interests in sustainable initiatives, and we provide training to employers on how global climate change affects businesses.

As laws and regulations surface to encourage, and even mandate, sustainability, our attorneys remain committed to keeping our clients informed and developing strategies to ensure compliance as well as to seize the competitve advantages that sustainability can produce.
