COVID-19 Hero Highlights: Cintra Develops Partnerships with Nonprofits to Sustain Charlotte Families
Posted in Hero Highlights

This article is part of a series in which Brooks Pierce highlights clients that are going above and beyond to help combat the effects of the COVID-19 crisis in their communities.

Cintra, a subsidiary of global infrastructure operator Ferrovial, is a key partner in developing the I-77 Express lanes between Charlotte and Mooresville. The company’s work in Mecklenburg County drew its attention to the growing number of families in the community struggling with basic needs like food and housing due to COVID-19. So, the company decided to give back in a number of ways.

In May, Ferrovial contributed $67,500 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Second Harvest works with 800 partner agencies to collect and distribute food to over 24 counties. Because of the increased need in the Charlotte area due to COVID-19, Second Harvest expected to spend $1 to $2 million a week on food purchases for several months. Ferrovial’s donation went a long way toward helping Second Harvest fulfill their mission to combat hunger in the community.

In late June, Ferrovial contributed $54,000 to Loaves & Fishes, a nonprofit that utilizes a network of 41 local emergency food pantries to provide a week’s worth of nutritionally balanced groceries to families experiencing a short-term need. Loaves & Fishes’ demand for food assistance has nearly tripled since the onset of the pandemic. It has responded by establishing mobile pantry operations and increasing the number of pantry visits available to families in order to meet the growing demand.

More recently, Cintra, through its partnership with I-77 Mobility Partners, donated $10,000 to Crisis Assistance Ministry. The independent nonprofit assists families in Mecklenburg County experiencing poverty or crisis with obtaining rent and utility assistance, clothing, household goods, furniture and appliances. The funds donated by I-77 Mobility Partners will be used to supplement rent and utility payments for those who have lost their jobs or otherwise been negatively impacted financially due to the pandemic.

Brooks Pierce is proud to serve businesses like Cintra who are using their time, energy and resources to serve their communities in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.
