Coble and Spainhour Serve as Panelists for North Carolina Open Government Coalition's Seminar

Brooks Pierce partner Charles Coble was a featured panelist for "How Much Do You Really Make? Applying the New Rules on Disclosure of Public Officials' Compensation." The session covered the changes to the statute concerning access to public officials' full compensation, the special rule for hospital officials, and HIPAA objections to public records requests.

Brooks Pierce attorney Elizabeth Spainhour was a featured panelist for "Who Foots the Open Government Access Bill?" Topics covered included the legislative battle for attorneys' fees in access cases, the barriers to accessing search warrant information, the Obama administration's promise of openness, tape recording closed session official meetings, mediation of access disputes, and televising legislative proceedings.

The North Carolina Open Government Coalition educates individuals regarding the public's access to government activity, recordings, and meetings; supports efforts to gain access; and advocates the principles and benefits of open government.
