12.14.2018

Brooks Pierce recently sponsored an event for Triangle members of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) in Raleigh. Partners Elizabeth Spainhour and Sue Young presented a continuing legal education (CLE) program, entitled “Managing Risk in Contract Drafting and Negotiation,” to in-house counsel from companies throughout the Triangle.

In the presentation, Spainhour and Young emphasized the overall importance of risk management in contract drafting and negotiation, particularly for in-house counsel. The interactive-style CLE allowed attendees to participate in a discussion on negotiation considerations, allocation of risks in contracts and strategies for negotiating contracts. The presentation also provided tactics for navigating common commercial contract provisions.

Spainhour represents media, communications and technology companies in a variety of regulatory and business matters. Her practice includes drafting and negotiating complex business agreements and providing advocacy through regulatory approval processes.

Young is a transactional lawyer whose practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and general corporate law. She has significant experience representing clients in mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and other strategic transactions.

The ACC is a global bar association that promotes the common professional and business interests of in-house counsel through education, information, advocacy initiatives and networking opportunities. The ACC has more than 35,000 members employed by over 10,000 organizations worldwide.
