Brooks Pierce Partner Certified as a Specialist in Privacy and Information Security
Elizabeth Spainhour, a partner at Brooks Pierce, has been certified as a specialist in Privacy and Information Security Law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization (NCBLS). She is one of the first attorneys in the state to receive this certification, which launched in 2018.
North Carolina is the first state to offer a state specialization in Privacy and Information Security Law. Spainhour played a key role in its development, serving as a member of the Privacy and Information Security Law Specialization Committee of the North Carolina State Bar.
NCBLS was created by the North Carolina State Bar in 1983 to provide a method for qualified attorneys to become certified as specialists in the law. The North Carolina program is one of only 19 state legal certification programs in the United States and currently certifies attorneys in 14 different areas of law.
Spainhour is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/US who advises media and technology companies, advertisers, content creators and other businesses on privacy issues. She works with clients to assess data collection and to craft responsive data privacy and security policies. She received her bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before receiving her law degree from the UNC School of Law, where she graduated with honors.
