Stephen Hartzell, a partner in the Raleigh office of Brooks Pierce, recently moderated a panel discussion on the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly known as drones, at the 30th annual North Carolina GIS Conference. The panel discussed law and policy considerations applicable to the use of drones for mapping/surveying applications, including legal constraints and risk mitigation.
The panelists included: N.C. Rep. John Torbett (N.C. House District 108); N.C. Department of Transportation UAS Project Manager Chris Gibson; Wayne Bailey, who recently served as Deputy Director in the Office of the State Fire Marshall, and Kyle Snyder, who serves as the Director of the North Carolina State University NextGen Air Transportation Program.
