01.15.2021

Brooks Pierce partner John Cross has been awarded the 2021 Denise E. Maleska Leadership Service Award by Leadership Greensboro. Each year, the award is given to one person who demonstrates exemplary leadership in the Greensboro community.

“It’s a true honor to be recognized by Leadership Greensboro,” Cross said. “I have been fortunate to be part of several wonderful charitable institutions in Greensboro, which has allowed me to meet so many great leaders, advocates and volunteers in this community. I feel very fortunate for those experiences.”

Cross, a 2002 Leadership Greensboro graduate, has been involved in the community for 25 years. He currently serves as the Chair of the Board of the Cone Health Foundation and has held leadership roles with The National Conference for Community and Justice of the Piedmont Triad, Inc., United Way of Greater Greensboro, the Greensboro Children’s Museum and several other nonprofits.

Cross is a seasoned corporate attorney and business adviser, often serving as the outside general counsel for companies not large enough to have an in-house legal department. He assists clients in general business and transactional matters, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, securities, franchises, and real estate. He has been recognized for his work by inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers, North Carolina Super Lawyers and Business North Carolina’s "Legal Elite,” including being recently named to its “Hall of Fame.”

“John serves as the perfect example of someone who uses all of his abilities to better his community,” said Reid Phillips, Brooks Pierce’s managing partner and 2018 recipient of the Denise E. Maleska Leadership Service Award. “This is the highest honor offered by Leadership Greensboro, and I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more.”
