10.22.2019

Leading North Carolina law firm Brooks Pierce is pleased to announce that Tim Nelson has been named a partner.

“Tim truly takes a personal interest in our clients and the issues they are facing, investing himself wholly in his work,” said Brooks Pierce managing partner Reid Phillips. “Since joining Brooks Pierce in 2012, he has demonstrated a continuous enthusiasm and dedication for the law. We’re pleased to have him as a partner.”

A former television reporter, Nelson focuses much of his practice on media and communications law. He advises media clients—many in the broadcast industry—on all manner of corporate, regulatory, government relations and litigation issues. He handles various transactions for clients, including station and asset sales, mergers and acquisitions and retransmission consent and other licensing agreements.  Nelson regularly counsels broadcast clients on Federal Communications Commission regulatory and compliance issues, and he has advocated for clients in notice and comment proceedings before the FCC.  Nelson also advises clients on government relations matters at the state and federal levels.

Nelson has been recognized as a 2019 “Rising Star” in communications law by North Carolina Super Lawyers. He currently serves on the executive committee of the Federal Communications Bar Association, and he is co-chair of the Carolinas Chapter of the FCBA. Nelson earned his juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar.
