Bryan Starrett’s diverse practice includes general business litigation, internal investigations and compliance, and employment law. A former corporate finance and strategy consultant, he enjoys working closely with clients to understand their business operations, goals and challenges.
Bryan works with businesses to identify potential legal issues they may have within their business operations. A graduate of General Electric’s Financial Management Program and a former Deloitte strategy consultant, Bryan has a deep understanding of operations and finance, and uses his unique experience to counsel his clients. He has designed or led a variety of internal investigations for clients, ranging from matters involving unlawful contracting practices to workplace investigations. He has also worked with ethics and compliance professionals to design and lead internal investigations training for HR and other personnel both domestically and abroad.
Bryan represents clients in all levels of state and federal courts in North Carolina, including the North Carolina Business Court. Bryan has represented clients in a wide variety of litigation matters, including cases involving shareholder rights, antitrust, breaches of contract, covenants not to compete and employment discrimination, wrongful death and constitutional litigation.
Bryan counsels employers and HR professionals on a wide variety of employment related matters, including wage and hour issues, employment contracts and policies, employee privacy matters, and workplace investigations. Bryan also represents employers in all levels of state and federal courts in employment related litigation, including actions involving noncompetition agreements, wage and hour litigation, discrimination actions, and other matters.
Bryan has represented school boards across North Carolina in a variety of matters, including internal investigations, student conduct and discipline issues, privacy compliance, litigation, and compliance with public records laws.

During my work in corporate finance and corporate strategy consulting, I frequently encountered how the law can affect both short-term business decisions and long-term strategic planning. I witnessed firsthand how the legal landscape informs (or fails to inform) business decisions. Now at Brooks Pierce, I enjoy helping my clients navigate their legal problems and the business context in which those problems have arisen. Oftentimes, we are called on to solve problems that have already come to light—to “put out a fire.” While I enjoy solving those problems, I particularly relish figuring out how to prevent those “legal fires” in the first place.
Outside of my practice at Brooks Pierce, I’m very involved with Out of the Garden Project, a local nonprofit that provides food assistance for families in Guilford County. I’ve served on the board of directors since 2011, and really enjoy using my corporate and legal experiences to help the organization better serve our community. When I’m not practicing law or volunteering, I enjoy playing competitive sports, watching Wake Forest basketball (Go Deacs!), and spending time with my two daughters.
