After years of boxing, I learned how to be laser-focused in the ring. During my time boxing for UNC-Chapel Hill and coaching my teammates to regional and national victories, I spent many hours drilling combinations and studying opponents in preparation for each match. I learned what to do and when—for myself and my team.
Even in my legal endeavors, I always seek to do what’s necessary so that my team succeeds. From directing a workers’ rights clinic, to externing at a U.S. District Court, to leading the nation’s top technology law journal as its editor-in-chief, I carried different responsibilities. But I succeeded in each because I tailored my approach to the unique challenges and goals of each position.
I carry this same kind of focus into my work, and I also love a good challenge. I’ve faced many obstacles as a biracial, first-generation professional. But this adversity has given me the drive to solve any issue I face.
I wouldn't have been able to overcome many challenges on my own, and I owe much to my mentors. So, I'm always looking to use my passion for service to pay it forward. I’m dedicated to pro bono service, and outside of Brooks Pierce, I coach, volunteer for underserved communities, and share my knowledge through blogging. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and finding great restaurants to try.
