Brooks Pierce partner Bob Singer will speak at the Bank Directors’ College of the Commission of Banks and the University of North Carolina (UNC) Center for Banking and Finance on July 25.

The presentation, entitled “Bank Directors: Relevant Differences and Necessary Questions,” will discuss some of the legal responsibilities of being a bank director, including fiduciary duty concepts, risk management considerations, corporate governance concepts and techniques, strategies and models for decision making in a regulated environment.

The Bank Directors’ College provides directors with instruction on key banking issues and helps them understand the importance of their fiduciary responsibilities to both the bank’s shareholders and the communities they serve. Participants are provided with approximately 25 hours of "classroom" instruction over a two-month period.

Singer has over 30 years of experience representing financial institutions and public corporations on a wide range of corporate, regulatory and operational issues. He also advises clients on strategic initiatives, mergers and acquisitions and the negotiation and closing of large commercial loans. He is widely recognized as a leader in banking and finance law and serves as counsel to the North Carolina Bankers Association.
