Will Robertson and James Whalen Present CLE at HAVA

10.23.2026

Brooks Pierce attorneys Will Robertson and James Whalen will participate in The Help America Vote Alliance (HAVA) Zoom CLE on October 28 at 12:00 p.m. This continuing legal education course will examine relevant laws on “chasing and curing ballots,” providing a timely overview of the state’s recount rules.  They will also cover what triggers recounts, explain when a voter’s registration or eligibility may be challenged, and outline North Carolina's certification process. The course will conclude with an in-depth “case study” of the 2025 Allison Riggs election cases, providing information on legal lessons learned and pitfalls to avoid moving forward into election season.

Will Robertson represents businesses, governments, and individuals in all levels of state and federal courts. He draws upon his experience in court to design and implement effective litigation strategies for the Firm's clients.

James Whalen represents clients in complex litigation, constitutional and business disputes, appeals, and matters involving election law and political organizations. He has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Before joining Brooks Pierce, James served in the North Carolina Department of Justice’s Office of the Solicitor General, assisting with high-profile appellate litigation.
