03.26.2018

Brooks Pierce attorney Ryan Fairchild spoke with Checkpoint Radio about the rise of esports and the role attorneys can play in assisting aspiring players as the industry continues to grow. Checkpoint Radio is a talk show exclusively dedicated to covering video games and esports.

In the interview, Fairchild talked about how he translated his lifelong love of gaming into a passion for representing players, organizations and other stakeholders in this quickly growing industry. He also spoke about how esports athletes can better negotiate contracts with new leagues as well as the role lawyers can play in helping gamers better navigate this still-emerging industry.

Fairchild also provided insight on ways esports event streamers can protect themselves and their intellectual property when negotiating contracts with streaming services like Twitch, YouTube and Facebook.

“Do some due diligence before jumping into something too quickly,” said Fairchild. “You’re going to want to look closely at the contracts, because that’s ultimately going to determine what you are able to do and not able to do.”
