The inaugural Wade H. Hargrove Communications Law and Policy Colloquium recently presented by University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Law School and School of Mass Communications was televised nationally by cable and satellite on C-SPAN.

The program, “The Future of Television News in a Digital Age,” included featured speakers, David Barrett, Chairman and CEO of Hearst Television, Inc. and Ben Sherwood, President of ABC News.

The colloquium is named in honor of Wade H. Hargrove, former chair of the UNC Board of Trustees and the driving force behind the creation of the UNC Center for Media Law & Policy.  The colloquium was designed to be a forum for the discussion and debate of contemporary issues affecting the media.

Hargrove, is a partner in the Raleigh office of Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP, and is counsel to some of the nation’s largest media companies.  He has been asked to testify before numerous Congressional and other legislative committees on issues involving corporate law, copyright law, the Internet, satellite, broadcast, cable television, and public utility law.
