In an article published in Law.com, Brooks Pierce Managing Partner Jimmy Adams discusses how he was led to the role, and why one of the keys to success in leading a firm is to “always do the right thing.”

Adams, who has been with the firm for nearly 33 years, began as an associate attorney before eventually taking on opportunities to be involved in firm management. When he was elected to Brooks Pierce’s management committee in 2018, he had been a partner for 19 years.

The role of managing partner doesn’t come without challenges, Adams explained, including the hurdle of learning the role while practicing law. He suggests that the best piece of advice for someone who wants to one day lead a law firm is to “be true to yourself at all times,” a tip he was encouraged to follow as he made the transition to his current role.
