Brooks Pierce Partner Discusses Gen Z Jurors With North Carolina Lawyers Weekly
North Carolina Lawyers Weekly extensively quotes Brooks Pierce partner Kearns Davis in a piece exploring the impact on jury trials of a new generation of jurors. Titled “Attorneys prepare to adapt as Gen Z shakes up the courtroom,” the article explores how social media and other new technologies affect lawyers’ work in the courtroom.
Davis shares that, in his experience, the changes are not limited to young jurors, because changes in technology affect jurors of all ages: “We have young jurors who are used to being shown, not just told,” he said. “We don’t have . . . long presentations of things in the media as we once did. . . . [A]s lawyers, we have to be aware of that. Not just with respect to a particular generation, but with respect to the entire jury pool.”
Davis believes another factor that distinguishes younger jurors is their desire to make a difference in the world. “It’s important to them that their work, their lives, be in service of that,” he said. “I think they do, and will as a generation, bring that to the jury box.”
Davis is a Fellow and Regent of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He represents clients in courts throughout North Carolina and across the United States.
