Brooks Pierce partner Jennifer Van Zant was quoted in a Law360 article on the formation of the North Carolina Business Court in 1996, a forum that set the “gold standard” for other business courts.

The article, “How a Real-Life “Lincoln Lawyer” Hatched NC’s Business Court,” discusses the origins of the court, Judge Ben Tennille’s contributions and the lasting effects on the North Carolina legal landscape.

Van Zant recalled when the North Carolina Business Court became operational. “I kind of grew up with the Business Court,” and it was “fun because it was different,” she reminisced. Van Zant was chair of the committee that proposed a new set of rules for the court after the passage of the Business Court Modernization Act. The committee’s work led to rules that promote efficiency and flexibility for the court, practitioners and clients.

Van Zant focuses her practice on complex business litigation - the more complicated, the better. She represents businesses on a wide array of disputes before federal courts and the North Carolina Business Court, and works closely with clients to make paths toward resolution.
