Kim Marston Named to Triad Business Journal's Forty Leaders Under 40

02.23.2023

Brooks Pierce partner Kim Marston was named by the Triad Business Journal as one of the publication’s 2023 “40 Triad Leaders Under 40.” Marston was selected based on her professional and community involvement, namely with the North Carolina Business Court and on issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community.

Her recent accomplishments include her role on the team defending a client in the healthcare industry in a False Claims Act seeking more than $130 million in damages, with all claims later dismissed; her participation in a legal team that secured $75 million verdict for the United States operations of a China-based chemical manufacturer for breach of contract; and her involvement on the trial team in a case that was recognized as one of the largest eminent domain cases in North Carolina in 2018, with a verdict of $2.6 million in favor of the team’s client.

Marston is a vocal advocate of the LGBTQ+ community and currently serves as vice chair of the board of directors of the Guilford Green Foundation and LQBTQ Center, and on the board of the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) of the Piedmont Triad. She also volunteers her time counseling and supervising law students who provide guidance to clients on changing a name or gender marker in North Carolina, as well as providing pro bono representation to transgender clients who have experienced discrimination.

Marston litigates contract and commercial disputes, including unfair trade practices, trade secrets, unfair competition and breach of fiduciary duty claims on behalf of businesses and professionals in all levels of state and federal courts, including the North Carolina Business Court.
