Collins Saint Named Inaugural Chair of North Carolina Bar Association Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee

Brooks Pierce attorney Collins Saint has been named the inaugural chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s (NCBA) Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee (SOGI). SOGI was established in 2021 by President Jon Heyl to secure full equality for members of the LGBTQ+ community in the NCBA, the legal profession and society.

The SOGI Committee will work to oppose discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression; to promote the expertise and advancement of LGBTQ+ legal professionals; and to serve the larger LGBTQ+ community through providing legal education, resources, and information to the legal community and the public. It will do so through five areas of emphasis: mentoring, networking, education, service and advocacy.

Saint has a particular focus on broadening awareness of diversity issues within organizations. He counsels companies, educational institutions and other organizations on compliance with state and federal civil rights regulations, including Title VII and Title IX, the IDEA, the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Saint defends businesses in civil rights litigation when necessary. He also represents individuals in obtaining favorable results related to their markers of diversity. He has experience handling disputes on behalf of trans* persons involving discrimination and obtaining legal name and gender marker changes.
