The University of North Carolina (UNC) Center for Media Law and Policy will host the 2026 Wade H. Hargrove Media Law and Policy Colloquium and Reception, “The Regulator’s Dilemma: Innovation and Global Competition,” on April 6. The colloquium was established in 2009 by Hearst Communications to honor Wade Hargrove, retired partner of Brooks Pierce and graduate of UNC Chapel-Hill and UNC School of Law. Hargrove was the driving force behind the establishment of the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy, and a nationally recognized media attorney for the television industry.
The program will feature discussion moderator Julia Ambrose, partner at Brooks Pierce, and speaker Kevin Martin, vice president and head of global policy at Meta and former chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Discussion topics will focus on how regulators and industry leaders can respond to rapid technological change while fostering innovation and maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly global media and communications marketplace.
After a successful professional career of more than 50 years, Hargrove retired from the practice of law in 2018. He served as partner at Brooks Pierce for over 20 years, helping to establish the firm's nationally recognized media and communications practice.
