Reid Phillips Shares “A senior partner’s 10 tips for volunteering for young attorneys” with Inside Counsel

On April 13, Inside Counsel published a column written by Brooks Pierce partner Reid Phillips. The column discussed how young attorneys can effectively manage their practice and volunteer commitments, and included Reid’s top 10 rules for volunteering. Among his rules are:

Never commit to more than three volunteer activities at once. Aim to have one volunteer activity that is new to you, one that is mid-life, and one that is ending.

If you miss two meetings in a row, ask yourself if you should resign. If you miss three meetings in a row, resign.

Love your neighbors, but never serve on the board of a homeowners association. For some reason, homeowners associations bring out the worst in people.
