Brooks Pierce Attorneys Inducted into Herb Falk Society

04.30.2024

Brooks Pierce attorneys Bill Cary, Kearns Davis and Claire O’Brien were recently inducted into the 2023 Herb Falk Society by the Greensboro Bar Association (GBA). The induction was announced at the monthly GBA meeting on April 18.

The Herb Falk Society honors members of the GBA who provide at least 75 hours of pro bono service annually. The society was named in honor of Herbert S. Falk, a Greensboro lawyer who dedicated much of his career to pro bono work. Cary, Davis and O’Brien each performed more than 100 hours of pro bono service in 2023.

Cary works with a variety of public and private entities in the emerging area of Climate Resilience planning and strategies. These have included work on state and regional initiatives targeting clean water, habitat protection, and combating climate change. Cary’s career has included extensive experience in litigation and mediation, especially in employment, commercial, and environmental disputes.

Davis, a former federal prosecutor, founded Brooks Pierce’s white-collar criminal practice. He represents clients in criminal and civil litigation in North Carolina and in federal trial and appellate courts across the country.

O'Brien advises companies and individuals in the health care, medical device and pharmaceutical industries on a myriad of regulatory compliance issues. She counsels clients on various health care issues, including compliance with federal and state regulations and the day-to-day operations of health care facilities. O’Brien has significant experience advising on regulatory compliance across a range of industries, including counseling companies and individuals on interactions with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and guidance regarding compliance with the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
