Brooks Pierce Welcomes New Attorneys to the Firm

Brooks Pierce is pleased to announce that six new associates, Vanessa Canuto, Pearson Cost, Graham Dean, Kate Giduz, Gabby Motsinger and James Whalen, have joined the firm.

Canuto represents clients in a broad range of matters. She uses her experience as a law clerk to inform her approach to complex legal issues. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her juris doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Canuto is based in the firm’s Raleigh office.

Cost focuses his practices on litigation and regulatory compliance, representing clients in a broad range of matters. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College and his juris doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He is based in the firm’s Raleigh office.

Dean advises clients on federal and state privacy compliance matters across various industries, as well as complex data privacy and security issues. Before joining Brooks Pierce, he worked as a legal data protection counsel at a large multinational investment bank and as a privacy and cyber associate at an Am Law 50 law firm. Dean earned his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and his juris doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He is based in the firm’s Raleigh office.

Giduz has a wide-ranging practice representing clients in various matters before state and federal courts, as well as administrative and regulatory bodies. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Elon University and her juris doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. She is based in the firm’s Raleigh office.

Motsinger represents clients in various matters including labor and employment and litigation. As a former judicial extern, judicial intern and law clerk, she brings diverse experience from the U.S. District Court and U.S. Court of Appeals to help solve complex legal issues. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Cedarville University and her juris doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Motsinger is based in the firm’s Raleigh office.

Whalen represents governmental clients, individuals and businesses in all stages of litigation. Before joining Brooks Pierce, he served in the Office of the North Carolina Solicitor General, where he assisted in high profile litigation in the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeals, and state appellate courts. He has argued cases in the North Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. He leverages this experience and his background as a federal law clerk to inform his case strategy and assist his clients in state and federal court. Whalen earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and his juris doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He is based in the firm’s Raleigh office.
