Justin Outling Included in Business North Carolina’s 2023 Diverse Leaders List

02.06.2023

Brooks Pierce partner Justin Outling has been chosen as one of a dozen Diverse Leaders by Business North Carolina. This year’s listing, culled from a group of about 60 nominees, features a broad range of executives making important impacts by supporting their communities through various initiatives across the state. Outling is featured on the February issue’s cover alongside Jet It CEO, Glenn Gonzales, and Fresh Market General Counsel and Head of Diversity, Gerald Walden.

In his profile, Outling brings forward the important diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) work he has helped lead as Brooks Pierce’s director of diversity and inclusion. “The culture is such that while we may not all agree on every topic or every practical decision, we understand the outsized impact we have, and we work together for the good of the entire firm and the communities we serve. I see this in our diversity and inclusion efforts especially,” Outling said.

Outling highlights the firm’s many key diversity efforts which have been underway for more than a decade, including its pioneering Chief Justice Henry E. Frye Diversity Fellowship, awarded to a first-year law student who is a member of a historically underrepresented community. When it was introduced, the fellowship was one of the first of its kind in North Carolina.

Outling’s practice is focused on business litigation and white-collar criminal defense. As such, he represents a variety of businesses and individuals in complex matters.
