Brooks Pierce partner Justin Outling discussed the rising popularity of e-scooters and the correlating legal issues in a recent Law360 article.

The article, “E-Scooter Surge Kicks Up Cloud of Legal Issues,” discusses the difficulties legislators and local governments are facing as more public safety concerns arise with the popularity of e-scooters.

Outling said in the article: “The tricky thing is that there are going to be accidents just like with every other mode of transportation – whether it’s a vehicle, a Segway, a skateboard – so as a policy matter, the goal is to create regulations that maximize all the wonderful mobility benefits and reduce the risk and potential for harm.”

Outling focuses his practice on business litigation and white-collar criminal defense. He has served as a Greensboro City Councilman since 2015 and was named to the Greensboro News & Record’s “Top 20 People of Influence” in 2017. In 2019, Outling received the North Carolina Bar Association’s (NCBA) Citizen Lawyer Award. He was also named one of the Triad Business Journal’s “40 Leaders Under 40” in 2016 and selected as “Outstanding Lawyer of the Year” by the Guilford County Association of Black Lawyers in 2016.
